Abigail Breslin at 16 is no longer a ‘Little Miss’

Abigail Breslin isn’t Hollywood’s Little Miss Sunshine anymore. Actually, it’d be wrong to classify her as little miss anything these days, seeing as she is now the nearly adult version of that adorable little girl from the quirky comedy.

And here we thought Selena Gomez was the only one making “all grown up” headlines.

Breslin, now 16, hit the Tuesday red carpet premiere of her latest film, “The Call,” starring Halle Berry, and showed the world her transition from cutesy child star to teenage blond beauty.

The actress walked the black carpet at the ArcLight Cinemas in Los Angeles in a chic all-black ensemble by Alice + Olivia and punctuated her look with sultry red lips. She also talked about her transition from child to adult roles.

“It’s been pretty natural and I’ve been really lucky that I’ve gotten to do such awesome characters and be in such great movies, I’ve just been lucky,” she told E! at the premiere. Watch the video below.

At age 10, Breslin earned a supporting actress Oscar nomination for her portrayal of Olive, a chubby, somewhat dorky girl in “Little Miss Sunshine,” the film about an eccentric family going to extremes to get their darling into a beauty pageant. Back in November 2011, Breslin talked to The Times about the pressure that comes with taking on more grown-up roles.

“There’s obviously times when you feel that and you think about it, but at the end of the day, I kind of try and think there are really other important things going on in the world,” she said. “There are diseases and hunger and really important things. Even though I think film can be really important and teach people things, it’s an hour-and-a-half-long movie. You kind of have to keep it in perspective.”

The former child star has a busy year coming up as she’ll appear in the horror film “Haunter,” which debuts at SXSW this month; the big-screen adaptation of “Ender’s Game” with Harrison Ford, Ben Kingsley and Viola Davis; and the film adaptation of the Broadway dramedy “August: Osage County” with multiple Oscar winner Meryl Streep and Julia Roberts.
