Jay Mohr apologizes for his Alyssa Milano fat-shaming ‘fail’

Comedian Jay Mohr has apologized for “fat-shaming” actress Alyssa Milano.

This after Milano showed him who’s the boss on Christmas Day.

The comic, 43, took a swipe at the “Mistresses” actress soon after they both attended an awards ceremony for NASCAR’s Sprint Cup Series at Wynn Las Vegas on Dec. 6.

Mohr, who has previously admitted to comedy plagiarism, served as the show’s host, and the “Who’s the Boss?” alum presented the championship award to race car driver Jimmie Johnson. Milano wowed on the red carpet at the event in a red, one-shoulder dress.

Later, the comedian did a radio interview in which he called the petite actress “Melissa” instead of Alyssa and made a few crude references to her “gut” on the air, according to several reports.

“She was one of the presenters. ... She’s very tiny. In height,” he said (via the New York Daily News). “It seems like she had a baby and said, ‘I don’t really give a ...’ ... I read it on her gut.”

He continued, saying, “Melissa what’s-her-name was very nice but didn’t look so great. Somebody sat in the director’s chair and was not wearing Spanx and I was like, ‘Jesus Christ.’”

OK, that joke fell flat. And the ameliorating powers of women’s shapewear should always remain a mystical phenomenon, with folks sticking to the first rule of “Fight Club”: You don’t talk about it.

Milano, 41, who gave birth to her first and only child in August 2011, did not take Mohr’s remarks lightly and called him out on Twitter on Christmas Day. (Milano, incidentally, has 10 times the Twitter following that Mohr does.)

”.@jaymohr37 So sorry you felt the need to publicly fat-shame me,” she wrote. “Be well and God Bless. Please send my love to your beautiful wife.”

That beautiful wife she’s referring to is “Las Vegas” actress Nikki Cox, whom he married in 2006 and has a son with (he also has a son from his marriage to ex-model Nicole Chamberlain).

Milano’s “Charmed” costar Rose McGowan also came to her defense, retweeting Milano with the response: “What?! Do I need to kick someone’s ass?”

Olivia Munn also weighed in: “You are gorgeous @Alyssa_Milano & ur baby is ridiculously cute. In other news @jaymohr37 looks like a foot,” tweeted “The Newsroom” actress.

After that — and a flurry of news outlets picking up on Milano’s response — Mohr finally addressed the festering feud with a self-deprecating apology, which came in the form of a tweet to celebrity blogger Perez Hilton and to Milano.

“@perezhilton @alyssa_milano She’s stunning,” Mohr tweeted. “I mistakenly thought the absurdity of what I was saying would have ben taken as a joke. #fail”

Fail, indeed.
