Dad Brian Williams cheekily shares Allison Williams’ ‘Peter Pan’ news
Brian Williams totally went into proud-dad mode as he announced his daughter Allison Williams’ casting in NBC’s live musical production of “Peter Pan.”
The typically serious anchor (and sometime rapper) got cheeky Wednesday night on “NBC Nightly News” as he shared the news item in his normal tone, then added a tidbit of embarrassing insider information to acknowledge that he was indeed reporting on his own kid.
After introducing the “Girls” star, recapping the network’s success with last year’s “Sound of Music” remake and announcing that Christopher Walken had taken on the role of Captain Hook, the journalist shared this little nugget about his little girl:
“Family members confirm she’s been rehearsing for this role since the age of 3 and they look forward to seeing her fly,” he said as a photo of his young daughter wearing a Peter Pan costume appeared on the screen.
Daaaaad!
The 26-year-old is also a classically trained singer -- something not necessarily evident in her Marnie character on “Girls” -- and her casting in “Peter Pan” keeps with the traditional stage version of the 1954 musical, which sees a woman playing the impish titular character.
Williams follows in the tights, er, footsteps of Tony Award-winner Mary Martin, Sandy Duncan and Cathy Rigby, Show Tracker reported.
The live production is set to air on NBC on Dec. 4.
