Jason Biggs’ Malaysia Airlines joke not very successful at all

Jason Biggs made a joke online about Thursday’s Malaysia Airlines wreck in Ukraine. People on Twitter got upset and called him names.

Biggs proceeded to own his tweet instead of deleting it and -- how do we say it politely? -- told those who were upset that they should get over themselves. People on Twitter got more upset, called him more names and criticized him for criticizing those who’d criticized him first.

TMZ then posted Jason Biggs’ picture incorporated into a shot of airplane crash wreckage. He got upset at TMZ, but did not call them names on Twitter.

In other news, a Malaysia Airlines passenger plane carrying nearly 300 people crashed in eastern Ukraine on Thursday, with reports emerging that the aircraft had been hit by a surface-to-air missile. The Ukrainian government, Ukrainian militants and Russian forces have been tangling in the area for months, with Russia annexing Crimea along the way, hundreds dying on the ground and general destabilization taking place.

But back to Twitter.

“Anyone wanna buy my Malaysian Airlines frequent flier miles?” the “Orange Is the New Black” actor tweeted shortly before 10 a.m. Thursday. Malaysia Airlines, of course, was also the outfit that back in March lost its Flight 370, which was bound for Beijing from Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, with 239 people aboard.

“In all seriousness, tho- HOW DO YOU MISTAKENLY SHOOT DOWN A COMMERCIAL PLANE?! Ugh,” he wrote about 15 minutes later. “It’s saddest for the victims and their families, obviously. But Malaysia Airlines is apparently a GREAT airline. Gonna be tough to recover.”

At this point, he crudely labeled the folks who were saying, “too soon,” adding, “it’s a ... joke. You don’t have to think it’s funny, or even be on my twitter page at all.”

“The idea that I wouldnt have any empathy 4 the victims or their families because I make a joke is absolutely ridiculous, U know that, right?,” Biggs added. “Truly- you losers are literally trying to find [things] to get angry about. Channel your issues elsewhere.”

Shortly after that, TMZ worked its magic. Fortunately for Biggs, he doesn’t have a contract with AFLAC.
