Kristian Nairn, Hodor on ‘Thrones,’ finally gets to say he’s gay

“Game of Thrones” actor Kristian Nairn, who plays the “little lord”-toting Hodor in the lavish HBO fantasy drama, is gay.

Not only that, he’s also been waiting a long time for someone to ask him about his sexuality in an interview.

The fan blog Winter Is Coming spoke with the actor ahead of the series’ Season 4 premiere on April 6 and specifically addressed Nairn’s large gay following among “bears.”

“Well, in all honesty, when you talk about ‘the gay community,’ you are talking about MY community, haha,” replied the Northern Irish actor and musician, who also happens to be a DJ.

“I AM aware of it yeah, and I think it’s really lovely. There’s not a day that I don’t get a few messages, but 99% or more are super sweet and nothing smutty at all! Again, it’s a privilege, and I really mean that. I’ve never hidden my sexuality from anyone, my whole life in fact, and I’ve been waiting for someone to ask about it in an interview, ‘cause it’s not something you just blurt out. I’ve tried to lead the questions a few times, to no avail!”

Though the topic hasn’t come up in the past, the actor said he thinks it’s important to be out.

“I had an upbringing to respect other people’s privacy, and their right to be and choose what they want, and I expect, no, demand no less for myself,” he said. “It’s a very small part of who I am on the whole, but nonetheless, in this day and age, it’s important to stand up and be counted.”

And just for kicks, the hilarious “World of Warcraft” enthusiast would consider giving fans a Hodor-style piggyback ride (among other things) for $150,000.

The actor’s revelation comes just as “Game of Thrones” show runners D.B. Weiss and David Benioff confirmed that they know the ending to the TV series, based on George R.R. Martin’s “Song of Ice and Fire” book series.

“Last year we went out to Santa Fe for a week to sit down with him [Martin] and just talk through where things are going, because we don’t know if we are going to catch up and where exactly that would be,” Benioff said in the April issue of Vanity Fair, which boasts breakout stars Kit Harington, Emilia Clarke, Lena Headey, Nikolaj Coster-Waldau and Peter Dinklage on the cover.

“If you know the ending, then you can lay the groundwork for it. And so we want to know how everything ends,” Benioff added, saying that they hope the show will run for at least eight seasons. “We want to be able to set things up. So we just sat down with him and literally went through every character.”

Still, Martin, who’s still writing the penultimate sixth book, “The Winds of Winter,” said he isn’t giving everything away.

“I can give them the broad strokes of what I intend to write, but the details aren’t there yet,” he said. “I’m hopeful that I can not let them catch up with me.”
