Paris Hilton: ‘I wish I could take back every word’ about gay men

In Paris Hilton’s world, gay men may be the “horniest,” but one heiress is apparently the sorriest. She’s apologizing big time for derogatory comments about gay men captured on audio by a cab driver earlier this month in New York.

“I want to say how sorry I am. I can’t fit the whole apology about the cab recording here, so please read it at @GLAAD,” she tweeted late Thursday, including a link to her longer mea culpa on the Gay and Lesbian Alliance Against Defamation website.

Hilton was in town for New York Fashion Week when, in the wee hours of Sept. 7, a cab driver hit “record” as she discussed a gay-male hookup phone app with an openly gay friend. The recording was released Thursday by Radar Online.

“Gay guys are the horniest people in the world,” Hilton says on the profanity-laden recording after learning how the Grindr app helps a person locate men who are up for random sex. “They’re disgusting. Dude, most of them probably have AIDS.

“I would be so scared if I was a gay guy ... ,” she added, because of the idea that a person might “die from AIDS.”

The “No H8” advocate struck a much different tone in her apology on the GLAAD site, declaring her continuing support for the gay community and explaining that the recording was of a private conversation with a gay friend and was not meant to refer to all gays.

“I cannot put into words how much I wish I could take back every word,” she said.

“HIV/AIDS can hurt anyone, gay and straight, men and women. It’s something I take very seriously and should not have been thrown around in conversation.

“Gay people are the strongest and most inspiring people I know. It is so wrong when people bully or put down others for being gay. No one should have to go through that. Again, I am so sorry from the bottom of my heart and I feel absolutely horrible. I hope that everyone can accept my apology and know that it is not who I am or how I feel in any way.”

So, apology accepted? Or has Paris ground her reputation into pieces when it comes to gay men?
