John Constantine will return! And a first look at Jay Garrick’s new TV Flash

Matt Ryan's John Constantine series may be cancelled, but the character is not dead. The great demon wrangler will return on "Arrow." But wait, there's more superhero news: We've also got the first look at Teddy Sears as Jay Garrick on "The Flash."

On the Flash front, it had already been announced that the character of Jay Garrick was joining the cast, to be played by actor Teddy Sears. But now, the show has put out the first image of the character, which also just so happens to re-create the cover to "The Flash" #123 -- an important comic that told the tale of the Flash of Two Worlds. The story, which debuted in September 1961, introduced Earth 2.

The major differences in the cover and the CW's version? No steel girder falling on the victim in the re-created image, and it's a woman, not a man, who needs saving in the newer image. The show is set to premiere its second season Oct. 6.

There was no second season for "Constantine." But earlier, the show's star Matt Ryan and "Arrow's" Oliver Queen, actor Stephen Amell, had agreed to show up on each other's shows if NBC's mystical series received a second season. Alas, it was canceled, but thankfully the crossover is happening anyway. The shady dark arts practitioner sent this message to fans.

Constantine will appear in episode 405 of "Arrow," entitled "Haunted." The cameo was announced at the Television Critics Assn. presentation for the CW. Executive producer Marc Guggenheim also said: "We are thrilled to have Matt Ryan reprise the role of John Constantine on an upcoming episode of 'Arrow.' Matt is an incredibly talented actor and his portrayal of this beloved character was always something we admired. The introduction of magic and mysticism on the show this season has provided a truly organic opportunity for us to bring John Constantine to 'Arrow' and the CW’s DC universe. It will be a well-deserved tip of the hat to all the Constantine fans who were so incredibly supportive of that series."

"Arrow" will return for its fourth season Oct. 7.
