Watch ‘Steven Universe’ come to life and sing in a live performance by the cast at Comic-Con

“Steven Universe” is known for many things: charm, inclusive storytelling, oddball fantasy plots, various gemstones and its absolutely excellent, original soundtrack. At Comic-Con that world came alive for one day only.

The cast and crew of the animated series kicked off their Friday panel with a live performance of their beloved and batty tunes — an event dubbed the “Steven Sing-A-Verse.”

Previous panels have broken out into musical moments, but this was the first time the musical minds behind the show gathered with the cast for a live concert — including character Garnet played by pop singer Estelle, who blew fans away.

“Steven Universe” creator Rebecca Sugar was joined by the show’s composers Aivi Tran and Steven “Surasshu” Velema, cast members Zach Callison (Steven), Estelle (Garnet), Michaela Dietz (Amethyst) and Deedee Magno Hall (Pearl), writer Ben Levin, writer and storyboard artist Jeff Liu and violinist Jeff Ball, with former supervising director Ian Jones-Quartey serving as moderator.

But we’ve also compiled a list of the songs performed at the first ever “Steven Sing-A-Verse” concert (with a few video sneak peeks). Aivi and Surasshu got things started with the all-instrumental “Amalgam,” a song that fans of the show will recognize as the music that plays when Amethyst and Pearl perform their fusion dance.

8. The extended opening theme

After the musical portion of the presentation, the panel shifted to a more conventional format and took questions from the audience. But that didn’t mean the music was over — toward the end of the panel Sugar performed a song from an upcoming episode.
