Miranda Kerr’s Victoria’s Secret Angel status questioned

Miranda Kerr isn’t getting her Victoria’s Secret Angel wings clipped any time soon, despite reports circulating Wednesday.

Kerr’s $1-million, three-year contract with the lingerie company reportedly “was not renewed” because of her “difficult reputation” and because she “wasn’t a big seller,” Us Weekly said.

However, Victoria’s Secret officials deflated those rumors. And we’re still scratching our halos over what actually comprises said “difficult reputation”...

“Miranda Kerr is one of the best models in the history of the business — and easily one of the most popular,” president and chief marketing officer Ed Razek said in a statement via People. “She is also a consummate professional. Any rumors to the contrary are simply untrue.”

Kerr was the Angel chosen to model the $2.5-million Victoria’s Secret “fantasy bra” in the brand’s 2011 fashion show in New York. We can’t imagine that one was a “big seller,” for obvious reasons.

The 30-year-old wife of actor Orlando Bloom and mother to 2-year-old Flynn has been recognized the world over. Her current gigs include founding cosmetics line Kora Organics, being a spokesmodel for Mango and modeling Qantas airlines’ new uniforms designed by Martin Grant. Last month, she ended her “fashion ambassador” relationship with Australian retailer David Jones, which she fronted since 2008, because a long list of demands reportedly stalled and ended negotiations.

“While her international commitments have kept her away from us more than we’d like over the past few years, she will always be an Angel to me,” Razek added.

He said he had already asked Kerr to walk in the highly anticipated 2013 Victoria’s Secret Fashion Show “and, happily, she’s agreed.”

A source told People magazine that “if Miranda and Victoria’s Secret part ways it’s not because of her behavior. It’s purely contractual. She’ll be coming back for the show but it’s unclear if she’ll be in future campaigns. But she is definitely one of the most popular models and in high demand.”

If the reports that she is hanging up her wings were indeed true, it wouldn’t have been the first time we’ve seen beloved Angels leave the lingerie company. Tyra Banks, Heidi Klum and Gisele Bunchen all left their contracts behind to pursue their own endeavors.
