‘Birdman’ wins the American Society of Cinematographers Award
Emmanuel Lubezki won the 29th American Society of Cinematographers Award for outstanding achievement for “Birdman” Sunday evening at the Hyatt Regency Century Plaza.
Lubezki, who is nominated for an Academy Award, won the ASC prize last year for “Gravity,” and earned the award for 2011’s “The Tree of Life” and 2006’s “Children of Men.”
It was a big weekend for “Birdman,” which is nominated for nine Oscars and is considered the front-runner for the Academy Award. Not only did the dark comedy win the ASC award, the film won prizes at the Cinema Audio Awards, the Golden Reel Awards and Make-Up Artists & Hair Stylist Guild Awards.
Jonathan Freeman won for outstanding achievement for an episode of a regular series for the “Golden Days for Boys and Girls” installment of “Boardwalk Empire.” John Lindley earned the ASC award for television movie/miniseries/pilot for the pilot of “Manhattan.”
Peter Flinckenberg was the recipient of the ASC Spotlight Award for “Concrete Night.”
Barbra Streisand was the recipient of ASC Board of Governors Award. Cinematographers John Bailey, Bill Roe, Matthew F. Leonetti and Phil Meheux earned honorary awards.
