Comic actor Brad Garrett has been tapped by the Writers Guild of America, West to host the 2014 Writers Guild Awards on Feb. 1, and you can watch how he works the room with a live webcast of the ceremony along with pre-awards nominee interviews – from film and television -- starting at 5 p.m. PST at www.latimes.com/envelope.

While Garrett, best known for costarring on “Everybody Loves Raymond,” skewers the best of Hollywood, the awards themselves could lend some insight into what films might go on to receive even more trophies -- all five of the guild’s original screenplay nominees -- “American Hustle,” “Blue Jasmine,” “Dallas Buyers Club,” “Her” and “Nebraska” -- are also up for the Oscar in March, as are three of the five adapted screenplay nominees: “Before Midnight,” “Captain Phillips” and “The Wolf of Wall Street.”

“Writers have always been the backbone of our business, and I’m thrilled to be able to celebrate their big night -- plus, I have two hours left to complete my community service,” Garrett said of hosting the show in a statement. The actor currently guest-stars alongside Robin Williams on the CBS comedy “The Crazy Ones.”
