Frank Finlay, Oscar-nominated actor, dies at 89
British actor Frank Finlay, who was nominated for an Oscar for his work in “Othello,” died Saturday, according to a message on his official website. He was 89.
“We are very saddened to announce that Frank died today 30th January 2016 at home surrounded by his family,” the site reads. “He was a fine actor and will be very much missed by his friends and family.”
Finlay starred in “The Three Musketeers” of the ‘70s opposite Oliver Reed, Raquel Welch, Richard Chamberlain and Michael York. The film was nominated for a Golden Globe for best comedy or musical film in 1975.
His other credits include “Shaft in Africa,” “Bouquet of Barbed Wire” and “Casanova.”
Finlay’s grandson, Josh Coombes, a drummer for the band Tigress, tweeted a tribute calling him a “funny, loving, amazing storyteller, inspiration & one of the best actors this country has ever seen.”
Finlay was married to Doreen Shepherd for 50 years until she died in 2005. They had three children.
