‘Furious 7’ trailer: A family affair, with copious explosions
A high-octane new trailer for “Furious 7” has arrived, and it’s all about family values.
It’s just that this particular “family” — tough guy Dom (Vin Diesel), ex-cop Brian (Paul Walker), mechanic/racer Letty (Michelle Rodriguez) and the rest — values driving fast, kicking butt and blowing stuff up.
The trailer starts quietly enough, with shots of a backyard barbecue as Dom says, “The most important thing in life will always be the people right here, right now. That’s what’s real.”
But things get really real when vengeful bad guy Deckard Shaw (Jason Statham) interrupts them with a nasty phone call and the first of many explosions. That sets off a chain reaction of hand-to-hand brawls, wild stunts and winking lines like, “This time it ain’t just about being fast.” (Hmm, is it about being furious too?)
Amid all the action, the constant references to family and taking “one last ride” underscore the poignant aspect of “Furious 7,” which marks the final film of franchise star Walker. The actor died in a car accident unrelated to the movie over Thanksgiving weekend in 2013, while shooting was still underway.
Director James Wan, producer Neal Moritz and studio Universal halted production but ultimately decided to finish the film and push back the release date, giving Walker’s character an on-screen sendoff, the details of which have not been revealed.
“Furious 7” hits theaters April 3.
