Golden Globes 2015: Moore, Murray, Ruffalo double up on nominations

When the Hollywood Foreign Press Assn. likes someone, it really likes someone. Case in point, three actors scored double Golden Globes nominations Thursday morning: Julianne Moore, Bill Murray and Mark Ruffalo.

While Murray and Ruffalo were recognized for one film and one TV project apiece, Moore earned her nominations with a pair of movies.

Moore is widely regarded as an Oscar front-runner for her lead performance as a brilliant professor grappling with early onset Alzheimer’s in “Still Alice,” so it was no surprise she got a nod for actress in a drama for the Richard Glatzer and Wash Westmoreland-directed film.

Less expected was her nomination for best actress in a comedy for “Maps to the Stars,” David Cronenberg’s biting Hollywood satire about a dysfunctional showbiz family.

If Moore can pull off victories in both categories on Jan. 11, she’ll become only the fourth actress to win two Globes in the same year, following in the footsteps of Sigourney Weaver in 1989 (“Gorillas in the Mist,” “Working Girl”), Joan Plowright in 1993 (“Enchanted April,” the TV movie “Stalin”) and Kate Winslet in 2009 (“Revolutionary Road,” “The Reader”).

Meanwhile, Murray is nominated for his roles as a hard-drinking curmudgeon in “St. Vincent” and a lonely widower in “Olive Kitteridge,” and Ruffalo for his performances as an ill-fated Olympic wrestler in “Foxcatcher” and an irascible AIDS activist in “The Normal Heart.”

Murray and Ruffalo will endeavor to be the first (or first and second) male actors to snag two Globes in one year.
