‘Gone Girl’ trailer: Ben Affleck professes his innocence

Ben Affleck is under suspicion in the chilly new trailer for David Fincher’s upcoming thriller “Gone Girl,” an adaptation of the Gillian Flynn novel about a man whose wife disappears on their fifth anniversary and leaves him as the prime suspect.

The exclusive trailer available here, which is set to a Richard Butler cover of Charles Aznavour’s “She,” opens with Nick Dunne (Affleck) speaking to a crowd at a candlelight vigil about his missing wife, played by Rosamund Pike.

“As you all know, my wife, Amy Elliott Dunne, disappeared three days ago,” he says.

The trailer then alternates between scenes of the couple together and scenes of Nick dealing with the aftermath of his wife’s disappearance.

In brief flashes, Nick paces throughout their empty home and recalls Amy soaking in the tub or getting into bed. He deals with police and the media, oversees a day-and-night search, and also occasionally erupts in anger, as when he is seen smashing a glass or arguing with Amy in the foyer.

The nearly wordless trailer ends with a haunting image of what appears to be a drowned Amy, as Nick professes, “I did not kill my wife. I am not a murderer.”

The trailer’s moody, mysterious tone and inky cinematography are quintessential Fincher without revealing too much about Flynn’s twisty plot. Flynn herself wrote the adaptation of her 2012 book, which sold more than 2 million copies in its first year.

“Gone Girl” also stars Tyler Perry, Neil Patrick Harris and Emily Ratajkowski. The film opens Oct. 3 from 20th Century Fox.
