SAG Awards 2013: Jackman, Cooper, Day-Lewis among best actor noms

If the men who scored best-actor nominations from the Screen Actors Guild on Wednesday were excited, they weren’t immediately showing it.

None of the nominees -- Hugh Jackman, Denzel Washington, John Hawkes, Bradley Cooper nor Daniel Day-Lewis -- immediately jumped on the phone to gush over the honor, as is customary for most nominees on mornings like these.

Day-Lewis, who scored a nod for playing the 16th U.S. President in “Lincoln,” did, however, send out this enthusiastic statement: “What a lovely thing for myself, Sally [Field], Tommy [Lee Jones], and the entire cast to be nominated by our guild.” (Steven Spielberg’s film also earned an ensemble cast award.)

“Silver Linings Playbook” star Cooper, meanwhile, was tied up filming “The Hangover Part III,” his publicist said.

There was no word from Jackman, who has been heavily promoting his star turn as Jean Valjean in “Les Misérables.” Washington, nominated for playing an alcoholic pilot in “Flight,” was also nowhere to be found.

As for Hawkes, “The Sessions” star continued being famously press-averse, even though his little-seen film could arguably benefit from more media attention.
