John Mayer announces tour with two SoCal stops

There’s no better way for a singer to mend a broken heart than to hit the road, and that’s exactly what John Mayer will be doing this summer and fall.

The singer-songwriter hasn’t toured in three years, owing in large part to major vocal-cord issues relating to a recurring throat granuloma.

But Mayer seems to be back in the saddle, announcing a headline tour that will bring him to Irvine’s Verizon Wireless Amphitheatre on July 27 and the Hollywood Bowl on Oct. 5.

The tour is the first in support of his most recent album, “Born and Raised,” and his first shows since his January performance at “The Livingston Town Proper: A Concert to Benefit the Fighters of the Pine Creek Fire” in Montana. “American Idol” winner Phillip Phillips will be the main support on most dates.

The tour kicks off July 6 in Milwaukee, but he’ll preview the official dates with a stop at the New Orleans Jazz & Heritage Festival in April and May. Tickets for both SoCal dates will go on sale at 10 a.m. March 29.
