Beck signs with Capitol Records, new album due in 2014
Beck has inked a new deal with Capitol Records and will release his first new album in more than five years, the label announced Monday.
The alt-rocker has been hard at work on “Morning Phase,” the follow-up to 2008’s Grammy-nominated “Modern Guilt.”
“Morning Phase” will arrive in February.

In a release announcing the deal, Capitol teased the new record as a companion album of sorts to his acclaimed 2002 album, “Sea Change,” with the new album featuring many of the musicians that played on the album and currently accompanying him at live shows.
“’Morning Phase’ harkens back to the stunning harmonies, song craft and staggering emotional impact of [‘Sea Change’], while surging forward with infectious optimism,” the release said.
Late last year Beck issued “Song Reader,” a project that featured 20 songs presented only as sheet music, and he issued a trio of singles (“Defriended,” “I Won’t Be Long,” “Gimme”) this year as digital and 12-inch vinyl releases.
A tracklisting and exact release date is forthcoming, Capitol said.
