Goldenvoice unveils slate of Coachella satellite shows
Goldenvoice has again programmed a robust slate of spring concerts surrounding its annual Coachella Valley Music and Arts Festival, a now annual happening since the event expanded to two weekends in 2012.
With dates stretching from April 8 to early May, a number of artists making stops on the dual Coachella weekends of April 11-13 and April 18-20 will perform at venues in Los Angeles, Pomona, Santa Ana and Pioneertown.
If you’re like anyone on the staff of Pop & Hiss, you’ll immediately scan the poster of dates looking for the word “Replacements.” You’ll be out of luck. The once-raucous, now reunited rock outfit is not among the crop of Coachella artists working overtime while in Southern California.
But there’s still a broad spectrum of artists opting to perform outside the desert setting of Indio.
TIMELINE: Coachella and Stagecoach music festivals
Local pop acts Foster the People and Haim will make separate appearances at the Fox Theater in Pomona, romantic pop orchestrator Bryan Ferry has a date at Club Nokia in downtown Los Angeles, bluesy rabble-rousers the Jon Spencer Blues Explosion are tapped to perform in Echo Park, and rock ‘n’ roll heartbreakers the Afghan Whigs have a non-Coachella performance outside the desert club of Pappy & Harriet’s.
There’s also a “special guest” listed for April 10 at the Fox Theater, but Pop & Hiss won’t start any rumors. As for Coachella, the desert fest is sold out and will feature performances from the likes of OutKast, the Arcade Fire, Muse, Beck, the Replacements, Ellie Goulding and more.
