Next year’s Grammy Awards will be on a Monday night

The Grammy Awards will shift its 2016 ceremony from Sunday to Monday night, and the date has been set for Feb. 15. It will remain at the Staples Center in Los Angeles.
This year’s show drew a television audience of 27 million viewers and generated 20.9 million show-related tweets internationally, according to a Recording Academy spokesman.
Combined viewership for the Grammy telecast and two related TV shows—“A Very Grammy Christmas” in December and the follow-up “Stevie Wonder—Songs in the Key of Life: A Grammy Salute” reached 40 million, the Academy reported.
The choice of the 2016 telecast date will allow the Grammy show to avoid any competition from Monday Night Football, coming as it will eight days after Super Bowl L takes place at Levi’s Stadium in Santa Clara, Calif., with the host team being the San Francisco 49ers.
The academy has not announced whether change in the night of the awards ceremony will prompt date shifts for events that traditionally precede it, including music mogul Clive Davis’ gala pre-Grammy dinner and performance and the MusiCares Person of the Year salute, which traditionally have taken place the Saturday and Friday, respectively, ahead of the Sunday night Grammy show.
