Paul McCartney, Ringo Starr, Taylor Swift among Grammy additions
The Grammys have added fuel to its planned weekend of celebrating Beatlemania by booking a performance from Paul McCartney and Ringo Starr.
McCartney and Starr are slated to receive the Recording Academy’s lifetime achievement award the day before the telecast. The night after the big show, the legacy of the Fab Four will be feted with a performance special.
“The Night That Changed America: A Grammy Salute to the Beatles,” will mark the Beatles’ first appearance on “The Ed Sullivan Show.” A reunited Eurythmics along with a host of talent in town for the Grammys will perform Beatles’ tunes for the special.
The CBS special will be filmed at the Los Angeles Convention Center and air on Feb. 9 at 8 p.m., exactly 50 years to the very moment of the Beatles’ historic performance (no coincidence it was carried on CBS as well).
Macklemore & Ryan Lewis, Kacey Musgraves, John Legend, Taylor Swift and Keith Urban have also been added to lineup of performers for next week’s Grammy Awards, the Recording Academy announced.
Also added to the bill is Sara Bareilles, who will team with Carole King, this year’s recipient of the MusiCares Person of the Year award, for a special performance. It certainly isn’t as curious a pairing as Metallica with Chinese pianist Lang Lang.
Other Grammy performers include Daft Punk with Nile Rodgers Pharrell Williams and Stevie Wonder; Kendrick Lamar with Imagine Dragons; Lorde; Katy Perry; Pink and Fun’s Nate Ruess; Robin Thicke and Chicago; and Merle Haggard, Kris Kristofferson, Willie Nelson and Blake Shelton.
