K-Pop’s PSY hits Dodgers Stadium with viral song ‘Gangnam Style’

If you haven’t yet heard “Gangnam Style,” the viral Korean pop-rap hit by PSY, beware, because the operative word is “viral.” A song so ridiculously infectious and over-the-top as to make LMFAO sound like James Blunt, “Gangnam Style” is one of those pushy worldwide phenoms like the Numa Numa dance: inescapable, trashy and explosive. And annoying as the day is long? Yes.

The song was released earlier in the summer, and so far has amassed nearly 45 million views on YouTube. So ubiquitous is the song that on Monday night at Dodgers Stadium during a game against the San Francisco Giants, PSY showed up on the between-innings dance-cam to promote it. (Apparently, he’s here on business.)

As pointed out over at Popdust, the Gangnam virus has infected both Katy Perry and Nelly Furtado, both of whom have expressed pleasure and concern over the song’s effects, along with Josh Groban and T-Pain. Perry, in fact, jokingly tweeted a distress signal regarding PSY’s hit. “Help, I’ve fallen into a gangnam style K-hole,” she wrote. For her part, Furtado did a cover version of the song in concert last week.

And in early August, Justin Bieber’s manager Scooter Braun tweeted simply, “HOW DID I NOT SIGN THIS GUY?!!?!?”

Check out the official music video for PSY’s hit, but be forewarned: You’re risking exposure to what could be this season’s “Who Let the Dogs Out” or “Macarena.”
