Supreme Court’s Sonia Sotomayor shows off salsa moves

She may be far from her Bronx roots these days, but Sonia Sotomayor still knows how to salsa.

Sotomayor, the Nuyorican Supreme Court justice appointed by President Obama, has been busy this week promoting her new autobiography, “My Beloved World,” which paints a detailed self-portrait of her blue-collar New York upbringing, her years as a Princeton undergraduate and her journey into adulthood.

Naturally, Sotomayor has been making the rounds of the promotional-tour circuit lately, including an interview with the Spanish-language Univision network’s Jorge Ramos. At the end of the session, Ramos reminded Sotomayor she once said that the best cure for lovesickness was to learn to dance salsa. (Watch the video below)

The justice assented with a laugh. Asked whether she learned to dance well, she replied, “I don’t know if well; I learned to dance badly, but I look at what my partner is doing and I follow him.”

To demonstrate, at Ramos’ suggestion, the justice then began salsa-ing (more or less) with the TV anchor as the segment ended, proving she still can be light on her feet when the occasion demands and the beat is right.

Now that’s over, she can get back to tango-ing with her eight colleagues on the bench.
