United We Stand Fest with Chuck D finds new home, now free to public

Should you be looking for a way to fill your dance card Saturday night and the idea of hearing a slate of speakers that includes both Larry King and Public Enemy’s Chuck D doesn’t fill you with confusion, then the United We Stand Fest might just the event for you.

Billed as a “gathering of creative, spiritual, intellectual and political leaders to unite and empower young voters,” the event will take place Saturday at the Belasco Theater, 1050 S. Hill St. Doors open at 4 p.m., with the show scheduled to start at 5.

The festival was originally slated to be held at UCLA’s Pauley Pavilion. But the university pulled the plug earlier this week, saying the event’s organizers failed to pay on time. Ciiting the inconvenience of the venue change, organizers have now made the fest a free event, giving seating priority to those who originally purchased seats. (The downtown Belasco Theater has a seating capacity of 1,016.)

The evening is set to include performances from the founding members of Wu-Tang Clan, Immortal Technique, The Siren, Paul Masvidal of Cynic, Tatiana Moroz, Rooftop Revolutionaries, A-Alikes, Luminaries, Kellee Maize, Jon Goodhue and Sounds of Solidarity.

In addition to King and Chuck D, scheduled speakers include Ben Cohen & Jerry Greenfield (Ben & Jerry’s Ice Cream, via video), former Ohio congressman Dennis Kucinich and author Marianne Williamson.
