Watch: Arcade Fire scores dreams in moody ‘Afterlife’ video

At this month’s YouTube Music Awards, Arcade Fire presented a so-called live music video for its song “Afterlife” directed by Spike Jonze and starring Greta Gerwig as a woman dealing with the departure of a lover by dancing her face off in the hallway of her apartment building.

It was kind of touching -- and kind of embarrassing.

Now the Canadian indie rock band has premiered a second clip for the song, from its new “Reflektor” album, and there’s nothing so borderline-corny about this one.

Directed by Emily Kai Bok (who’s also made videos for Grimes and Grizzly Bear), it depicts the quiet desperation -- and the palliative dreams -- of a father and his two sons as they carry on without the woman who appears to have held their family together.
