Connie Britton wants to see a ‘Friday Night Lights’ movie

Connie Britton made an appearance at the White House Correspondents’ Dinner over the weekend, and though she’s currently starring in ABC’s drama “Nashville,” the topic of vital importance was her previous network show, “Friday Night Lights.” The question: Will there ever be a “Friday Night Lights” movie?

Speaking to E! News, Britton said, “I would love it to happen. I’m a big supporter of it happening. I don’t know if we will see it or not.”

“Friday Night Lights” was a 2004 movie before it was a TV series on NBC, but the refashioning of the story for the small screen, focusing on the relationship between Coach Eric Taylor (Kyle Chandler) and his wife, Tami (Britton), created a legion of fervent fans. When the series was in danger of cancellation by NBC, the devoted fan base followed the series to DirecTV, where it lived on for three more seasons.

The show went off the air in 2011, but fans are still wondering what the Taylors are up to these days. And apparently they’re not alone. Of the supposed reunion film, Britton revealed, “I know it was being written and Peter Berg is really serious about it, so I think if everybody got on board, I don’t see why we couldn’t have a movie.”

But don’t expect anything too immediate. While Britton is currently starring on “Nashville,” Chandler has been making appearances in feature films (including Martin Scorsese’s upcoming “The Wolf of Wall Street”) and was just cast in the Showtime pilot “The Vatican.”

As Britton told the Hollywood Reporter in March, “We keep talking about how we have to wait a certain amount of years and then we can go back to working together again.”

But her former screen husband may disagree. Speaking with MTV News in December, Chandler revealed that he had not seen any script, nor had he discussed the project with showrunner Jason Katims. Further, he felt that “Friday Night Lights” ended “at exactly the right time and in exactly the right way as well.”

A disagreement in the Taylor household? It wouldn’t be the first. But we know those two will find a way to work things out. They alway did before.
