‘American Horror Story,’ ‘Big Bang Theory’ top Critics’ Choice bids
The critics have spoken: horror, geeks and HBO make for some good TV.
The nominations for the third annual Critics’ Choice Television Awards were announced Wednesday morning by the Broadcast Television Journalists Assn. -- and FX’s “American Horror Story: Asylum” and CBS’ “The Big Bang Theory” lead the list of nominees tied with six, while HBO tops the networks boasting a whopping 21 nominations.
Some of the usual suspects are back: Bryan Cranston and Claire Danes, best actor and actress in a drama last year, are both nominated again this year. And last year’s comedy victors, Louis C.K. and Zooey Deschanel, are also returning nominees.

Then there’s oddly magical face-offs, such as Jimmy Fallon, whose “Late Night” won best talk show in 2012, and is once again a nominee, up against Marie Osmond, who headlines “Marie” on the Hallmark Channel. We can only hope a duet is born from that.
And demonstrating TV networks aren’t the only ones producing award-worthy TV these days, Netflix talent got some recognition. Kevin Spacey (“House of Cards”) is a contender in the actor in a drama category, with his co-star Corey Stoll is competing in the supporting actor category.
“This year’s nominations reflect the expanding definition of television, with nominated programs and performances representing new platforms as well as broadcast and cable,” BTJA President Joey Berlin said.
The winners will be named June 10 at the Beverly Hills ceremony. It will be hosted by “Parks and Recreation” star Retta, whose NBC comedy received five nominations.
