Frank Darabont’s new series gets a new title, air date
Frank Darabont’s TV comeback after his highly publicized departure from “The Walking Dead” will debut on TNT on Dec. 4, but be sure to set your DVR carefully -- the show has a brand new title.
The series that started out being called “L.A. Noir,” then “Lost Angels,” will finally make it to TV with the title, “Mob City.”
Darabont’s series, adapted from the nonfiction book, “L.A. Noir: The Struggle for the Soul of America’s Most Seductive City,” is set in post-World War II L.A., where the chief of police (Neal McDonough) is waging war on mobsters like “Bugsy” Siegel (Ed Burns) and Mickey Cohen (Jeremy Luke).

“Walking Dead” alums Jon Bernthal and Jeffrey DeMunn also star as a couple of LAPD cops, along with Gregory Itzin, Milo Ventimiglia and Alexa Davalos.
The original title for the six-episode “event series” came straight from the nonfiction book by John Buntin; however, Darabont later said in an interview that lawyers for video game company Rockstar threatened legal action over the name. Rockstar published the 2011 video game, “L.A. Noire.”
No word on why the title changed again, but there’s no danger of confusing this with Roma Downey’s “Touched by an Angel.”
Whatever the series is called, it looks to be a no-holds-barred look at the gang war that was waged on the streets of L.A. during the 1940s and ‘50s.
