FX adds WW II miniseries from Danny Boyle and Simon Beaufoy
Why should HBO have all the World War II miniseries? FX is getting in business with Oscar-winning director-writer-producer team Danny Boyle, Simon Beaufoy and Christian Colson for a 10-part WW II miniseries.
The based-on-a-true-story miniseries “Telemark,” penned by Beaufoy, zeros in on the fleet of British-trained Norwegian resistance fighters who sabotaged Hitler’s nuclear development program during the war.
“As we all know, some of the very best narrative fiction ever told is currently being created as episodic television,” Beaufoy said in a statement. “This incredible story is ideally suited to the slower burn and added complexity that the longer format allows and I can’t wait to get my teeth into this.”

It’s the first American TV project for the trio, who last worked together on the James Franco-led flick “127 Hours.” The team was also behind 2008’s international hit “Slumdog Millionaire.”
“This is one of the world’s greatest stories and we want to tell it on an epic scale,” Boyle said in a statement.
“Telemark” is part of the network’s bigger plan to get involved in the miniseries and limited series trade. The network’s other miniseries “Fargo,” an adaption of the Oscar-winning film, begins production next month with a premiere in 2014.
No word yet on when “Telemark” is slated to begin production.
