Get to know ‘SNL’s’ new cast members
There are two ways to handle the three new performers joining the “Saturday Night Live” cast this weekend for the season premiere. You can wait until they appear on the first episode and catch their bit part in that sketch that airs sometime after midnight. Or you can seek out their pre-”SNL” material on YouTube.
The three performers, Aidy Bryant, Tim Robinson and Cecily Strong, were all active in the Chicago improv and sketch scene and they all have comedy work online for fans’ persual.
Earlier this summer, Second City announced it was teaming with the Lyric Opera of Chicago to produce an event, “The Second City Guide to the Opera,” in January. To promote this, Second City has produced a series of short films about a therapist named Dr. Opera. In the first of these videos, Aidy Bryant appears as Gretel.
New cast member Tim Robinson performed in Second City and appeared in this fake commercial about the chronic affliction of “insecurity.” (He plays the guy who was living in his parents’ basement after he beat his co-worker.)
And finally, fellow Second City performer Cecily Strong makes an appearance in this fake infomercial, “How to Sponser a Uterus” as Karen Rigsby.
