Fans of the late Huell Howser and his travelogue “California’s Gold” will be able to be able to get an up-close look at artifacts and memorabilia from the show.

“That’s Amazing! Thirty Years of Huell Howser and California’s Gold” is set to open at Chapman University’s Leatherby Libraries. The public is invited to a free open house launching the new exhibit on March 29 from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.

The event will also mark the world premiere of a new documentary, “A Golden State of Mind: The Storytelling Genius of Huell Howser” by Chapman film professor Jeff Swimmer, which will be screened four times in the university’s Waltmar Theatre during the open house.

Also appearing during the event are some of the more popular people showcased on Howser’s shows, including the Lint Lady (lint artist Slater Barron) and the Soap Kitchen Lady (artisan soapmaker Dali Yu.)

The exhibit, which will be open Tuesdays through Saturdays following the open house, is sponsored by the Automobile Club of Southern California.
