The new season of “Sesame Street,” which begins Monday, will give a special spotlight to one of its oldest stars. Cookie Monster, the big blue baked goods enthusiast, who has appeared on the PBS children’s show since its debut in 1969, is becoming the focus of a new segment on the show. And to talk about it, Cookie Monster himself will be dropping by The Times to answer reader questions.

Cookie Monster will appear Monday at 11 a.m. PDT for a live chat to discuss the new season of “Sesame Street,” his new segment, “Cookie’s Crumby Pictures,” and the show’s added emphasis on self-regulation in children.

Just what is self-regulation? It’s a curriculum of self-control in children which allows them to appropriately respond to their environment and, hopefully, perform better in school.

Or to translate it to Cookie Monster terms, it means learning concepts like delayed gratification, and not necessarily devouring cookies upon first sight.

Actor Tom Hiddleston, better known as Loki from the “Thor” and “Avengers” movies, recently appeared in a clip with Cookie Monster to teach him this concept.

In recent years, Cookie Monster has become a bit of an Internet sensation. He filmed a parody of Carly Rae Jepson’s single “Call Me Maybe” last summer titled “Share It Maybe,” which has been viewed over 14 million times on YouTube.

Cookie Monster will also be answering reader questions. So if there’s something you’ve always wanted to ask him, leave a question in the comments or tweet them to @patrickkevinday.
