Josh Elliott leaving ‘GMA,’ replaced by Amy Robach
Josh Elliott is leaving “Good Morning America” and being replaced in the news anchor chair by Amy Robach, ABC News President Ben Sherwood announced Sunday in a memo to his staff.
“As many of you know, we have been negotiating with Josh these past several months,” Sherwood wrote in the email. “In good faith, we worked hard to close a significant gap between our generous offer and his expectations. In the end, Josh felt he deserved a different deal and so he chose a new path.”
Elliott is joining NBC Sports. Robach, who has been battling breast cancer while working. filled in on “GMA” for Robin Roberts several times when Roberts was recovering from her bone marrow transplant.
“Amy will be a fierce and formidable full-time addition to our GMA team,” Sherwood wrote, highlighting Robach’s coverage of the birth of Prince George from London and the Sochi 2014 Winter Olympics.
Before joining “GMA,” Robach worked as a general assignment reporter in South Carolina and a morning anchor in Washington. She spent five years at NBC as an anchor for MSNBC and co-host of “Weekend Today.”
Sherwood thanked Elliot for “his many contributions” and said “GMA” and ABC News will “bid him farewell” later this week.
Sam Champion, who was the show’s weatherman from 2006 to 2013, left in December to anchor a new morning show for the Weather Channel.
