Justin Timberlake and Jimmy Fallon team up for ‘Ironic’ singalong

Justin Timberlake returned to “The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon” Wednesday night with a song in his heart, and that song was Alanis Morissette’s much-discussed mid ’90s hit “Ironic.”

To commemorate his latest appearance on the show, Timberlake and Fallon took the occasion to revisit their “Camp Winnipesaukee” sketch, which features the pair as kids at summer camp that just love to sing.

Previous editions of the sketch found Fallon and Timberlake tackling other classic ’90’s hits like “Jumper” by Third Eye Blind and Hootie & the Blowfish’s “Only Wanna Be With You,” as well as a particularly stirring rendition of Toto’s ’80s classic “Africa.”

The sketch, as in years prior, featured Fallon and Timberlake plagued by a camp counselor (Mr. Fletcher, played by “Tonight Show” writer A.D. Miles) who just wants the boys to go to sleep when all they want to do is be best friends and sing.

The highlight of Wednesday’s “Camp Winnipesaukee” sketch, as it so often is on the show, was watching Timberlake and Fallon giggle their way through the scene, unintentionally capturing the experience of sort of being in trouble at camp perfectly.

Timberlake’s sterling harmonization during “Ironic” is a close second.

The actor and singer took heat earlier in the week for posting a selfie with his ballot, a no-no in Tennessee (Timberlake was born in Memphis) and in several states across the nation, in an effort to get out the vote.

“We’re thrilled Justin can’t stop the feeling when it comes to voting so much that he voted early in person and is promoting voting to his millions of fans,” Adam Ghassemi, a spokesman for Tennessee Secretary of State Tre Hargett, said Tuesday before hastening to add, “In Tennessee, using electronic devices inside polling locations to take pictures, videos or make calls is not allowed.”

Timberlake’s return to “Camp Winnipesaukee” comes in the midst of several active projects for the artist.

“Justin Timberlake + the Tennessee Kids,” a musical documentary by Jonathan Demme, was released on Netflix Oct. 12, while Timberlake also has “Trolls,” a movie about singing trolls, premiering in theaters Nov. 4.
