MSNBC suspends Alec Baldwin’s late-night show

MSNBC has suspended Alec Baldwin’s late-night show following his recent homophobic caught-on-camera gaffe.

The former “30 Rock” star -- known for his temper tantrums, especially when it comes to paparazzi -- will not be on MSNBC for the next two weeks.

New episodes of Baldwin’s show, “Up Late With Alec Baldwin,” will return Nov. 29 -- assuming he keeps his temper in check?

The 55-year-old host offered the following statement that was posted on the show’s website:

“I would like to address the comments I made this past week.

“I did not intend to hurt or offend anyone with my choice of words, but clearly I have – and for that I am deeply sorry. Words are important. I understand that, and will choose mine with great care going forward. What I said and did this week, as I was trying to protect my family, was offensive and unacceptable. Behavior like this undermines hard-fought rights that I vigorously support. I understand ‘Up Late’ will be taken off the schedule for tonight and next week.

“I want to apologize to my loyal fans and to my colleagues at msnbc – both for my actions and for distracting from their good work. Again, please accept my apology.”

The hiatus might go unnoticed for some. The late-night show hasn’t fared well in the ratings since its October debut. And it relieves the stress of booking that Baldwin noted was an issue for the show.

But, hey, maybe this opens up time to for Baldwin to look into making a cameo on Charlie Sheen’s “Anger Management”?
