Don’t count him out just yet — Piers Morgan says he’d love to keep an on-air perch at CNN.

On Sunday, the ratings-challenged news network confirmed that it will soon ax “Piers Morgan Live,” the nightly interview show hosted by the scrappy 48-year-old Briton.

But Morgan said Monday that he may not be finished with American cable news.

“I’d love to stay with CNN and do big interviews, if we can do a deal that suits us both,” Morgan wrote in a direct message on Twitter after Showtracker asked about his plans.

While nothing has been decided, it’s possible that CNN could sign Morgan to do a weekly prime-time show focusing on big-name interviews. That would be similar to his show on Britain’s ITV, “Piers Morgan’s Life Stories.”

“My only interest is in doing big-name interviews,” Morgan wrote. “Not news stuff, unless it’s a big name attached to a specific news story.”

“Piers Morgan Live” has sunk to some record ratings lows at 9 p.m. lately. Morgan and his producers feel that a big problem has been attracting big-name guests nightly. Some critics, however, have countered that Morgan’s strident anti-gun views and sometimes lecturing tone made him an odd fit with American audiences.

A CNN spokeswoman only reiterated Morgan’s point that nothing had been decided about his future at the network.
