Piers Morgan demands John Oliver make good on $10,000 offer

John Oliver’s tenure as fill-in host of “The Daily Show” has gone mostly trouble-free (aside from the studio losing all power before an interview with Aaron Sorkin), but the British comedian may have finally gotten into a bit of hot water by mocking fellow Brit and CNN host, Piers Morgan.

Oliver did a segment on Monday’s “Daily Show” about CNN’s Dr. Sanjay Gupta changing his mind on medical marijuana, and in the process poked some fun at Morgan, who had told Gupta about the Vicodin he was prescribed after falling off a Segway in 2007 and breaking five ribs.

“I would like to personally offer $10,000 in reward to anyone who can bring me footage of Piers Morgan falling off that Segway,” Oliver said.

Unfortunately, that footage does exist. And on Piers Morgan’s show Tuesday, the host aired it.

“Mock all you want, Mr. Oliver, but, my fellow Brit, your punch line did carry with it a bona fide offer, to anyone, you said, who could produce the video of me falling off a Segway, and by the way, breaking five ribs, collapsing a lung and nearly expiring from life,” Morgan said before airing the video of the incident, which was property of the UK’s Mail, where Morgan was a columnist at the time.

“But now it’s time for you to suffer pain,” Morgan said. “Ten thousand dollars worth of pain in fact. I assume the money will be delivered by the end of business day tomorrow. If not, I’ll make sure that Mr. Stewart, now he’s back from his lengthy movie-making sabbatical, will take it out of your measly little salary.”

How will Oliver respond? The answer will surely come on Wednesday’s “Daily Show.”
