Tracy Morgan’s journey to recovery will reach a major milestone on Oct. 17, when the comedian is scheduled to host “Saturday Night Live.”

Since he sustained critical injuries in a car crash that also claimed the life of friend and comedian Jimmy Mack, Morgan has not performed publicly. In an emotional appearance on the “Today” show in June, the former “30 Rock” star and “SNL” cast member vowed to return to comedy but said he was focusing on his health.

Morgan will host the third episode of the upcoming 41st season.

He will follow Miley Cyrus, who will host the season premiere on Oct. 3. Cyrus has emceed twice before, and also made a prominent appearance in the show’s 40th anniversary special this year, covering Paul Simon’s “50 Ways to Leave Your Lover.” The busy Cyrus is also hosting the VMAs on Aug. 30.

Cementing her status as comedy’s No. 1 “it” girl, Amy Schumer will make her “SNL” hosting debut Oct. 10. The star of “Trainwreck” and “Inside Amy Schumer” has a stand-up special, “Amy Schumer: Live at the Apollo,” directed by Chris Rock and premiering Oct. 17 on HBO.

The lineup was announced via Twitter on Monday afternoon.
