Starz gets musical for ‘Dancing on the Edge’ miniseries

Music, murder and race relations are the subjects of Starz’s new five-part miniseries, “Dancing on the Edge,” which is set to premiere in October.

Chiwetel Ejiofor, Matthew Goode, Jacqueline Bisset and John Goodman star in the miniseries that follows the rise of a black jazz group performing around London during the 1930s. While their social status is on the rise, due in large part to fans in the royal family, among others, they still have to contend with racism. And then there’s a murder conspiracy to contend with.

The miniseries will go the extra mile to capture the sounds of the era with original songs from composer Adrian Johnston, with performances by Angel Coulby and Wunmi Mosaku.

Starz says the series was inspired by the real-life exploits of the Duke Ellington Band, who hobnobbed with the future Duke of Windsor, Edward VIII, during their time in Europe.

Starz has turned to Europe quite a bit for its recent original series, from “Da Vinci’s Demons” to “The White Queen.”
