Worldwide time set for ‘Doctor Who: The Day of the Doctor’

If you’re planning to throw a “Doctor Who” 50th anniversary party and you live on the West Coast, better plan on making it a lunch party. The worldwide time for the broadcast of “Doctor Who: The Day of the Doctor” has been set and can be seen in the U.S. at 11:50 a.m. PST Nov. 23.

The BBC is taking the unusual step of airing the long-awaited team-up of current Doctor Matt Smith with previous Doctor David Tennant at the same time all over the world.

More than 75 countries will see the special at the same time, and in the U.S. it will also air in select movie theaters in 3-D.

The special will also re-air at 4 p.m. PST the same day and replay in movie theaters on Nov. 25 in an additional 300 locations around the country.

The special airs on the same day “Doctor Who” debuted in England 50 years ago, the day after JFK was assassinated in the U.S.

The special will mark the end of a week of buildup, which will include the premiere of a behind-the-scenes special, “Doctor Who: Tales From the TARDIS,” and the nonfiction physics special, “The Science of Doctor Who With Brian Cox” on Nov. 18.

Nov. 19 will see the start of a marathon of episodes, beginning with the 2005 relaunch of the series with Christopher Eccleston as the ninth Doctor.

The David Tennant episodes will begin airing on Nov. 20. And the Matt Smith episodes featuring the 11th Doctor will air on Nov. 21 and Nov. 22.

Also on Nov. 22 will be the premiere of the film “An Adventure in Space and Time,” which stars David Bradley as the actor who played the first Doctor, William Hartnell. The film, which airs at 6 p.m. PST dramatizes the creation of the long-running science fiction series.

There will also be a “Doctor Who” intro special, “Doctor Who Explained” airing just before “An Adventure in Space and Time,” in case the week of nothing but “Doctor Who” programming still had you scratching your head.

Finally, there will be a special edition of “The Graham Norton Show” airing immediately after “The Day of the Doctor” featuring guests Matt Smith and David Tennant.

And then? Go outside. Walk around the block. Get some fresh air. Exercise. Call a family member. They’re worried about you.
