Lady Gaga, Malala Yousafzai among Glamour Women of the Year
Lady Gaga is on the cover of Glamour’s annual Women of the Year issue, in which she is being recognized for her efforts to “make the world a more tolerant place,” including by establishing her Born This Way Foundation. Glamour is announcing the other honorees over several days. So far, we know they include Malala Yousafzai, the 15-year-old Pakistani schoolgirl who was stabbed for seeking education for women; Net-a-porter founder Natalie Massenet, for “having reshaped the fashion industry;” and Christy Turlington Burns and Liya Kebede, for their charitable foundations. The chief executive of Barneys New York apologized to two young black customers who were recently stopped by New York police officers in separate incidents and quizzed about their expensive purchases. But he said that no one at Barneys had raised an alarm with the police or store security. Barneys has a zero-tolerance policy for racial discrimination, Chief Executive Mark Lee told the New York Post after meeting with Rev. Al Sharpton to discuss the matter. [New York Post]
