Tom Ford to show fall 2015 women’s line in L.A. -- 2 days before Oscars
Tom Ford will debut his fall and winter 2015 womenswear collection in Los Angeles in February, the designer announced Friday.
This marks the first time Ford’s women’s collection, which launched in September 2010, will be shown in the City of Angels. That first collection was presented at his Madison Avenue flagship store with successive seasons sent down the runway at London Fashion Week.
The designer explained his decision in the following statement accompanying the announcement:
“I have loved LA since I first moved there from New York in the early 1980’s,” Ford said. “Richard [Buckley] and I have had a home there and divided our time between LA and Europe for the past 20 years and have always felt a deep-rooted connection to the city. So many visuals in our world are filtered through Los Angeles including music, television and film and in this way it influences global fashion in a profound way. Like fashion, film is also a creative endeavor that is extremely important to me. I am excited to bring these two aspects of my life together by presenting the collection in Los Angeles.”
(That’s not Ford’s only connection to the area, of course, having opened a flagship boutique on Rodeo Drive in Beverly Hills in 2011.)
According to today’s announcement, the collection will be shown in Los Angeles on Feb. 20, 2015, with additional details to come at a later date.
It will be interesting to see what affect, if any, Ford’s announcement may have on the already jam-packed global fashion calendar. As it currently stands, New York Fashion Week is slated to run Feb. 12 to 19 with London Fashion Week kicking off the very next day across the pond. If anything could make the international fashion press yearn for the days of the Concorde and super-sonic flight, it’s this kind of catwalk conundrum.
But with Hollywood’s biggest night -- the Academy Awards -- slated to take place just two days later on Feb. 22, it’s a pretty safe bet there will be some serious star power on hand at (if not actually in) Ford’s show.
If you ask us, it’s a genius move.
