The big off-runway moment at Paris Fashion Week was, of course, the early morning robbery at gunpoint on Oct. 3 of frequent front-row fixture Kim Kardashian West just hours after turning out to the Givenchy show at the Jardins des Plantes. Although the incident, which the Associated Press reports occurred in a private Paris residence and resulted in the loss of $10 million in jewelry, didn’t immediately appear to heighten security at the shows.

That was probably because security measures had been in place at the major, high-profile venues from the outset, including visual bag checks, identification checks and more wand play than a Harry Potter movie. The Oct. 4 Chanel show at the Grand Palais marked the week’s precautionary high point thanks to all of the aforementioned efforts as well as an airport-style, conveyor-belt X-ray machine.

That show drew one of the starriest — and far-ranging — front rows of the season that included American TV host Steve Harvey, Spanish Formula 1 driver Carmen Jorda, French novelist Anne Berest and Princess Sirivannavari Nariratana of Thailand, to name but a few. And who couldn’t appreciate the delicious pop-culture juxtaposition of France’s former first lady, Carla Bruni-Sarkozy, just a dozen seats south of Courtney Love and daughter Frances Bean Cobain — with Johnny Depp’s daughter Lily-Rose Depp (the freshly minted face of the Chanel No. 5 fragrance) and a gold-toothed, Chanel-pinned Usher sitting in between?

Love actually took in a handful of shows on the fashion week docket here, including Rick Owens, Givenchy and the runway debut of L.A.-based, punk-flavored streetwear label Enfants Riches Déprimés. Challenging Love for the Kanye West ubiquity award Paris edition (it’s a thing, remember?) was Harvey, who we remember seeing at the Paris men’s shows in the past. This season, accompanied by his couture-loving wife Marjorie Bridges-Woods, the nattily attired TV personality notched additional appearances at Giambattista Valli, Elie Saab, Givenchy and Dior.

That Sept. 30 Dior show, which marked the debut of Maria Grazia Chiuri’s first collection as artistic director, was probably the week’s other celebrity high-water mark, with attendees like Diane Kruger, Marion Cotillard, Olivia Palermo, Kate Moss, Gemma Arterton, Bruni-Sarkozy and Rihanna, whose focus-pulling entrance allowed Jennifer Lawrence (who has been staring at us from bus-shelter ads for Dior fragrances all week) to slip in unnoticed just before that show began.
