Toms
For its new Venice Collection, local lifestyle and footwear brand Toms reverted to its roots, rendering the classical alpargata slip-on in cheery spring colors. The offering, which bows Feb. 19, is the first from creative director John Whitledge, who joined the brand late last year. “Since Toms started in [founder Blake Mycoskie’s] apartment in Venice Beach, we wanted to go back to what was authentic to us and celebrate where we came from while, at the same time, looking forward,” Whitledge said about the revamped alpargata.
The shoe style was the first product from the brand when Toms launched in 2006. In its latest iteration, the Toms alpargata can be found in textured canvas and in colors such as blush and turquoise. With the new Venice Collection, Toms continues its policy of donating a pair of shoes to someone in need each time a pair of Toms is purchased. Shoes in the Venice Collection are $49.95 and come in men’s and women’s sizes. They will be available at Toms stores in Venice and the Americana at Brand in Glendale this month and online in March. www.toms.com
Converse
The classic Chuck 70 sneakers by Converse have been given a radical face-lift through a special collaboration between the athletic brand and cult-favorite tattoo artist Brian Woo, a.k.a. Dr. Woo. The canvas high-top sneaker features Woo’s artwork, centered around a spider-and-fly design. He describes the design as “clean and not obvious or expected of me.” The sneakers, available in black or white, are designed to be worn dressed down with loose laces and vintage denim. Or they can be smartened up with tapered pants and a crisp shirt. The footwear retails for $180. For those who want the same look in an elevated style, there is a leather version signed by Woo and priced at $1,095. Both are available at Maxfield, 8825 Melrose Ave., West Hollywood. (Also, Converse is working on a series of other footwear collaborations.)

Fabletics
Demi Lovato’s first two offerings for fitness wear brand Fabletics were so well-received that the singer-actress has launched a third collection. This time the offering includes the debut of footwear and bags. The capsule collection of 38 pieces was inspired by Lovato’s touring and fitness-focused lifestyle, and the pieces include elements such as bold straps, textured mesh and metallic accents. Color offerings include teal, vintage rose and rose gold. “This time I was more hands-on and really got the process,” Lovato said. “I tried to go with both edgy and sophisticated pieces.” The collection ranges from $25 to $65.
