New York Fashion Week spring - summer 2013: Zac Posen
NEW YORK -- Red carpet favorite Zac Posen showed his collection Sunday evening on the terrace of Avery Fisher Hall overlooking Lincoln Center Plaza. As the sun set and Posen’s old world glamour gowns glided onto the runway, it was easy to imagine New York society ladies arriving on the plaza below to take in an evening of ballet or opera.
Photos: NYFW Week celebrity sightingsThe look: Old world glamour for the here and now. Pin-tucked, floral print chiffon day dresses that hugged every curve. Sculpted bustier tops worn with wide leg trousers. Peplum jackets with 1940s-era, sculpted shoulders. Draped duchess satin cocktail dresses. Then, for the fantasy portion of the show, retro glamour gowns in the finest satin, silk tulle and taffeta with extraordinary, couture-level details. Beautiful palette of rose, ice blue, lemon, jade, slate and ivory as rich looking as butter cream frosting.
The scene: Rarefied. Top models Naomi Campbell and Coco Rocha walked the runway doing their experienced best to steer the enormous ball gowns they were wearing. Martha Stewart was in the audience.
Verdict: A lovely, romantic interlude. A little sentimental perhaps, but Posen managed did adapt some of the fantasy to today.
