New York Fashion Week spring-summer 2013: Prabal Gurung
NEW YORK -- The collection: One of New York Fashion Week’s brightest young stars, Prabal Gurung showed his spring-summer 2013 collection Saturday afternoon in a steamy warehouse on Pier 59. The designer is a favorite of Zoe Saldana and Hailee Steinfeld, among others.
The look: Futuristic fairytale enchanting and slightly wicked. Trailing silk layers under snug-fitting jackets with crystal embroidery. Cropped pants with contrast waistbands and stud details. Silk shorts. Dresses with graphic organza insets and extraordinary prints of flowers dripping blood. Some of the dresses had full, lolling skirts, crystal and ostrich feather details. The palette was black and white with shades of red.
Photos: New York Fashion Week celebrity sightingsGurung debuted several styles of shoes made in collaboration with Casadei, including clear Lucite wedge pumps with web-like “veins” in the heels.
The scene: Steinfeld, who wore a white Gurung gown to the Golden Globes last year, was in the house. If any other celebs were, it was impossible to see them in the dark.
The verdict: Red carpet ready. It’s no wonder that Gurung is such a hit in Hollywood. His flair for creating entrance-making clothes is unmatched among his American peers.
