New York Fashion Week spring - summer 2013: Reed Krakoff
NEW YORK --Reed Krakoff, who has been the creative director of affordable luxury brand Coach since 1996, launched his own namesake ultra-luxury brand in 2010. For the first few seasons, the reviews of the runway collection were mixed.
But Krakoff has been steadily building his cred among the fashion cognescenti. His Boxer and Atlantique leather totes are big hits at retail. This year, he won the Council of Fashion Designers of America Award for Accessory Design. And who can forget that in May, his name was lifted into the headlines when Ann Romney, wife of Republican presidential nominee Mitt Romney, wore a $990 Reed Krakoff bird print shirt for one of her TV interviews and was labeled as being out of touch.

Krakoff showed his spring-summer 2013 collection Thursday afternoon.
The look: Kinky modern. Boudoir sport. Provocative but not raunchy. Sheer, lingerie-inspired layers, including stocking jersey track jackets and polo shirts worn over bra tops and liquid satin dresses. Leather boxer shorts and python pencil skirts. Crisp suiting with color block details. Slip dresses with painted feathers. Crocodile tote bags tucked under the arm. Mesh booties. Peep toe sandals with degrade feathers. Color palette included nude, blush, washed out beige and rose.
The scene: Fashion editors and retailers, plus celeb fan Julianne Moore. The New York Times called out Vogue magazine editors for refusing to share the half-empty elevator on the way down, and making everyone wait.
The verdict: Fabulous. Sexy, sophisticated and grown up.
