This La Verne gas station has great breakfast burritos, but not for long

Alpha Dogs, a family-run hot dog stand that serves burritos, bacon-wrapped hot dogs and burgers inside a Mobil gas station/car wash in La Verne, will close June 30 after four years in business.

The stand is known for serving breakfast burritos such as the Alpha, made with bacon, sausage, eggs, cheese, home-fried potatoes and house-made salsa; loaded hot dogs and burgers topped with chili and cheese.

Owner Mario Perez says the location has been a challenge.

“Being in the car wash, we depend on the weather,” said Perez. “We relied on people to come through [the doors] beyond our regulars, and if it rained for a couple days, it was terrible. We were a weekend destination, but you can’t continue to do business that way.”

Perez said Alpha Dogs, which is co-owned by his brother, Andy Perez, and sister, Monica Guzman, will likely continue with the catering portion of the business. Their bacon-wrapped hot dogs and breakfast burritos have been a staple of La Verne elementary school and Little League fundraisers. He also hopes to reopen in a better location in a year or so.

For now, visitors still have 10 days to get their fill of chili dogs, hamburgers, breakfast burritos, and bacon-wrapped Hebrew National hot dogs.
