Legendary cookbook writer Paula Wolfert has been diagnosed with an early form of Alzheimer’s disease, but in characteristic fashion, she’s not taking it passively. You can help her raise money for the Alzheimer’s Assn. -- and eat a lot of great food -- at a Mediterranean Feast fundraiser organized by Susan Park and Farid Zadi and featuring some of Los Angeles’ top chefs cooking from Wolfert’s recipes. Chefs already confirmed include Nancy Silverton, Susan Feniger, Matt Molina, Mary Sue Milliken, Robbie Richter and Bruce Kalman, with more coming on every day.

The event, to be held at Sarkis Vartanian’s Daily Dose downtown, isn’t until April 27, but it is almost sure to sell out early. General admission, which includes a walk-around sampling of more than 30 dishes, is $75. There are also VIP tickets for $125 that include valet parking and sit-down tasting.

If you’re going to be in Las Vegas next week, there’s no better place to spend your money than helping out chef Kerry Simon’s Keep Memory Alive fundraiser to help fight multiple system atrophy, or MSA. Simon, one of the best-liked guys in food, was diagnosed with the disease this winter. To raise money to study the little-known disease, he is bringing together friends from the world of food (Daniel Boulud, Wylie DuFresne, Michael Mina, Rick Moonen, Charlie Palmer and Jean-Georges Vongerichten, among others) and rock ‘n’ roll (Alice Cooper, Slash, Sammy Hagar and Vince Neil). Tickets are $500 and $1,000. https://www.keepmemoryalive.org/ways_to_contribute/attend_an_event/upcoming_events/2014/02/27/kerry-simon-says-fight-msa
