Chobani has officially issued a recall of some of its Greek yogurt cups, about a week after customers complained of “fizzing” yogurt.

The company began voluntarily pulling cups believed to contain an unspecified mold Chobani says is commonly found in dairy products from store shelves earlier this week.

Chobani Chief ExecutiveHamid Ulukaya told the Associated Press that although the company was in contact with the Food and Drug Administration regarding the yogurt, the recall was the company’s decision. Ulukaya claimed the mold problem has been fixed, and that it was caused by a lack of preservatives in the Chobani products.

Ulukaya has not disclosed how many reports of illnesses his company received.

The affected cups are those with the code 16-012 and expiration dates between Sept. 11 and Oct. 7 in the following sizes: 6 ounce, 16 ounce, 32 ounce, 3.5 ounce, Chobani bite 3.5 ounce and Chobani Flip 5.3 ounce.

Chobani officials say the yogurt cups with the mold came from its facility in Idaho, the AP reported. Less than 5% of the yogurt is said to have the mold.

Earlier this week, customers took to Twitter and Facebook, claiming their yogurt was “fizzy” and that some lids were “swelling” and “bloated.”
